I'm a newbie to this list. FWIW I've been a Dell customer for several years, and although they've not been perfect they've been OK.

So when my current laptop (a Dell Latitude C640) hit it's 5th birthday still functioning (more or less) but having crashed mysteriously twice in one week, I decided it was high time to replace it - and confidently ordered another Dell.

I'm in the UK, where Dell always seem to be having offers. But this August's was particularly good - an Inspiron 6400 was what I fancied anyway, and the August deal promised extra RAM, extra hard drive capacity, a faster chip etc. Great.

So on August 30th I ordered it on-line, and by return got an itemised confirmation with an estimated delivery date of September 7th. I hadn't fiddled with the suggested spec at all, just ticked the boxes for McAfee and the resource disc. Great again.

But no sooner had the money left my account than I had another email. Parts out of stock etc, delivery date now October 6th! Which is no good to me, I need it ASAP - this old Latitude is vital to my business and could die any day now. So I wrote back asking to either negotiate a similar spec machine ASAP or my money back. And so far not a peep out of them.

Can they suddenly delay delivery a month without my having any say? How long should I give them to respond? Is it reasonable to accept an alternate spec if that means getting it quick? Or could that be the scam - perhaps they made a mistake in the August offer and have now realised they've promised me about £900 worth of gear for my £620?!

Anyhow, how would you more experienced folks out there play it? Any recommendations?

Sorry,this is not a problem with suppilers.

Dell just orders parts and puts the system together,oh and puts a DELL badge on the front.

THATS IT...

By the way i have been waiting 4 years for my HP notebook to come back.
