Greetings, all.

We have a Poweredge 2650 and 2850, and have had the same problem on both. One hard drive fails, we order a replacement drive, and the container won't rebuild. Tech is dispatched to replace parts at random. Hilarity most certainly DOES NOT ensue.

Right now, our 2650 has been dead since Friday afternoon (18 May), when I brought it down for the tech to do his voodoo (and I mean this most seriously, I think his troubleshooting skills would benefit a great deal from some chicken feet and candles), and we still aren't up and running (23 May). They replaced the raid card, the backplane, and the mobo Friday, no joy, and then came out Tuesday and replaced the mobo, PCI riser and raid key. Still not up and running. More parts are coming in today, and ye olde tech will replace stuff at random and see what happens this time.

Same thing has happened to this 2650 and our 2850 before, so that casts a long shadow on the whole 2x50 product line for me. Looks like it's time to start pricing DL365's....

Whew, thanks, I feel better.

Welcome, pug. I guess you've figured, since replacing the drive didn't solve anything it wasn't the problem to start with.

A corrupt MB port writes corrupt data, including things that don't get automatically erased when you reformat/reinstall from a new MB. I've chased this kind of thing before. Repair has to break the loop or replace everything at once. They're generally not clever enough to break the loop.

At least you're getting service, such as it is.
