Oh yay, a new version of Symphony / IDD is launching on monday.
In training, even the mgmt had trouble getting it to work.
Prepare to crash! Prepare customer to tell them to hold on!
I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only people who uses DOMS at work still. It doesn't fail me. |

That's because DOMS runs on the Tandem mainframe platform, sold to Compaq and merged into HP.
Dell can't make a buck in North America unless they run it through their competitor's hardware.
Dontcha just love it? |

| Actually they are stuck with using Tandem hardware because of proprietary software that is running on it. They already tried to export the database while it was running, but it didn't work. They would need to shut down the whole system for several hours to do this properly. They can't because of the volume of orders coming in each day. LOL! |

The DOMS software is "proprietary" because, many years ago, dozens of in-house employee programmers wrote the 1300 server programs and the 1800 client/requester programs on the Tandem that make up DOMS. Don't forget about DPS and WTCS systems, also written in-house and running on Tandems too. Dell has tried to get off the Tandem at least 4 times and failed every time. No software written by Microsoft running on Dell hardware can provide the robustness and high quality that those progams have had on the Tandem since 1989. |
