Many new Dimension customers are encountering problems out of the box. When I worked there, that was the worst-case scenario, as in 2001 Dell was still customer-centric. But at the same time they laid off all us quality guys, they became another animal, centered only upon bulk sales and to hell with quality.

I posted this on Dell's own board in response to a customer whose Dell turned to shit right out of the box:
Quote:
There was a time when every Dell ran an hour before being shipped. That was then, this is now.

If you are within 21 days of invoice, by all means call customer service (NOT tech support) and request return for refund. You got a dog. If restoring to original image doesn't fix it, it's not a software or virus issue. Bad things are wrong, and it could take weeks or months on the phone to get parts replaced--with 'refurbs'.

Speaking of refurbs, that's what a "system exchange" will be. They will push this as opposed to refund because they want to keep your money. You don't have to accept refurb. Those are sold at a discount price and you paid for 'new'. Don't let them give you any guff about restocking or shipping charges either. Those don't apply in case of defect.

If you are outside the 21 days, I'm afraid your only recourse is the dreaded phone support. There are online chat and email options, but you could still be looking at hours, weeks, months before you get a working system. Sorry for your experience, but it's become characteristic since Dell threw all quality issues onto lowest-bidder Chinese vendors.

I wonder if they'll actually allow that post to live very long?

I've said the same things before, even more acridly, and never been deleted. Surprises me too.

It's still there 24 hours later, along with this in a subsequent frame:

I warn you, that Tech Support will stretch out the repair past your 21 days. You are advised to invoke your return-for-credit priviledge immediately.
