I think Dell is full of lots of "not so great people" and their time is coming when one day they are escorted out with no sound explanation and no notice. I'm sure EST (what does that stand for) is no different from a large majority of the groups around because those same "not so great people" are out for themselves and will stab their best friend in the back if that is what they need to do to get ahead. Who is Eloy is that a real person or one of the robots that walks around trying to look busy by micromanaging their people?

To Contractors: Gone are the days where contracting at Dell was a contract to hire position. You are simply going to come in and help out during a time of need and then when you are no longer needed you are moved out. Don't take a contract position at Dell with that false sense of hope because it will not happen. More than likely any open positions are going to be filled with someone that has never contracted at Dell but knows the right people to get them in. Take it for what it is worth a contract at Dell is a paycheck and nothing more.

dont feel that dell is the only one doing this...other companies do the same exact thing. Since i have left Dell, i have worked w/ppl who have done nothing but contract work longer than i worked at dell...! i dont know how they do it but that is what they choose to do. if they dont like a job, they just walk. They want a long vacation, they take it. it is a volatile workforce, so dont expect dell to treat you any better

Anyone who contracts to get hired is deluded.
True, some companies like to 'try before they buy' but most just need a body.
That's what you are, when the job is done or the money runs out, out you go.
But if you are working contract for nearly the same pay as a fulltime, you're not doing it right.

I did contract for 8 years, it was good times and bad.
The last place I worked was paying me $85/hr, but I knew it wouldn't last since they were a startup, burning through cash. Some of the fulltimers would kind of laugh at me, contracters dont get options or stock grants. But I just take the cash, no paper for me. It was a good ride while it lasted, now I'm at Dell, we'll see how that goes.

I take the point of view that all jobs are contract, the terms might differ, but basically you have to deliver useful work to your customer, and they have to pay you a good market rate. When either of those aren't happening, the gig ends. You might be doing good work and the company gets into a bind, but if you cant see that coming, you're not paying attention. And if they do catch you by surprise, you should keep at least 6 months pay in liquid assets. If you cant save that kind of money, then you are either getting underpaid, or living beyond your means. Time to learn some new skills and find a better paying gig.
