| I've been using an Inspiron 6000 for almost 3 years now. Right after the hardware waranty was up, things started to break. The DVD drive broke. The part that you use to snap the CD into place fell out. I found it today while trying to fix other problems and noticed it fell off inside the CD drive itself. The other day I heard my fan making noises louder than usual. I did what i usually do to get it to stop by giving it a light tap on the side with my hand (nothing that could damage it). Well, it wouldn't stop. The sound began to get louder so I asked some people what was going on. They said the fan is breaking. Lovely, another part on my computer is breaking. The fan is an important one though. I have important files so I don't want to lose my hard disk. I've seen how fast CPU's and mainboards heat up after a fan stops functioning. I'm not taking the risk of my hard disk falling either. I read http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/index.htm to figure out how to open it and look at the fan so I could diagnose the problem. The documentation didn't tell me how to properly disassemble the system and I could not get it completely open. While trying to open it I saw a piece fall out. I assumed from it's possition that it was the display cable. I was right. Now I have this box in my room that reads a hard disk, boots a Linux kernel, and sounds like a chainsaw. I'm done with Dell, I'm building my own computers for now on. |
