Layoffs. Since 2001, when has that NOT been a Dell rumor?
Braker K is closing. Metric 10 is closing. EG1 (TN) is closing 'temporarily'. Anyone who works in one of those places, expect disruptions. It's already underway.
3000, most from Round Rock, in July. Buy me a cheeseburger if it happens (I need it). Sue me if it doesn't. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Of the rank-and-file at Braker K, how many do you think Dell will pay to move to Tennessee? I'd say between 10 and zero. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

The chances any "worker-bee" moving to Tennessee?
Slim and none; and I think I saw Slim riding none out of town last night!
Of course, someONE might move, but you can be sure Dell isnt going to
do much to encourage moves. Just take what we offer or quit!!! Typical Dell solution to any problem!! _________________ rustyboots (i use to slave at dell) |

| What's the word regarding the ESG all-hands on Friday? Think it has anything to do with layoffs? |

10% layoffs over the next "year" (read that to mean by the end of this fiscal year) slipped into the quarterly report. |

| How early will the axe start falling Friday morning? Bet all of the HR people are having a late night tonight. Wakenhut has probably called in all of their "heavy weights" to help guard the doors for tomorrow. Can't you just see the news media, they are like vulchers and will be swarming the area. Will this be one of the 2-part layoffs where the managers get to do the dirty work and then get hit with the axe after their people are gone? Welcome to Dell 2.0 the Lean Mean Headcount Cutting Machine. |

Straight from Steve -- Dell Global Services
Dell Confidential—For Internal Use Only
Team,
As you saw from the email sent from me and my peers on the ELT, we made solid progress in Q1 in our effort to accelerate growth throughout Dell and in the Global Services Business. For more perspective on first quarter preliminary results across Dell, I encourage you to take a look at a post from the ELT on One Dell Way. In Global Services, we achieved the following key milestones:
Achieved our financial plan in revenue and margin
Opened our first Service Operations Center in Austin
Moved into Gartner’s Leadership Quadrant for Desktop and Helpdesk Outsourcing
Won significant customer accounts worldwide including Army, Laing’Rouke, BT Australasia, as well as a national social security institution in Malaysia, and many others.
While these are excellent accomplishments, we still have more work to do to dramatically improve our cost structure, drive global consistency and improve our relationships with customers and partners. To truly make the Dell 2.0 transformation a reality, it has become very apparent that we have to make fundamental changes throughout Dell aimed at bringing our costs in line with growth, reducing bureaucracy and eliminating redundancy.
To return Dell to the top of the industry with Services as a significant contributor, we have to grow with scaled costs to win in this market. This means we will make targeted investments to grow our business, but we’ll also cut costs in areas that are not sustaining our business or fueling our growth. These actions must include targeted headcount reductions across Dell and it will also impact specific roles in Global Services over the next 12 months. I can assure you that we will treat every impacted employee with dignity and respect.
In this time of transition, I highly encourage you to share your ideas specifically related to reducing bureaucracy and improving CE. We value your input, especially those of you on the frontline who interact with customers everyday.
I applaud each and everyone of you for your tenacity and for the outstanding contributions you’ve made. Although we’re facing some challenges, I’m confident that this team will persevere and play a huge role in transforming Dell Global Services.
Thank you,
Steve |
