Is it really a 3 day weekend if you don't know you have the third day off until noon of that day?

Here I sit. I called the Overtime Hotline just after noon and was told, "...all overtime has been cancelled for today." Tomorrow the soups will be on about how we should be all rested up after a 3 day weekend.

Mad Sorry guys, I don't consider it a real 3 day weekend unless I know IN ADVANCE that I have 3 days off. Finding out at noon on the third day that I don't have to stay up until 3:00 am is not my idea of being off for 3 days. I can't make plans. I can't go anywhere. Not that I can afford to on my temp associate wages.

It could be worse. We have no such "hotline" in TN. I know of times there's been no work and signs were posted for associates to meet with their supervisors upon their arrival to be told there's no work in their area, they can work in boxing or go home. Since associates are given the choice to stay or go, legally dell isn't required to pay the 4 hours mandatory pay for your showing up if you choose to leave. Basicly that's on par with being on call to work. There are people that drive up to an hour and a half one way to be told this.
Although I agree with you ArchAngel because your life is on hold and you can't make plans, at least you don't arrive to be told go to boxing or go home with no pay after taking the time to be there as you were told to be.
TN could take a lesson from Austin on this and have a number for it's empoyees here.

Good idea for the "what can d3ll do" section. You'd think that a tech company could at least have a little web page or send an email to let us know what's up when we're still at home rather than make us drag our tired carcasses all the way into the shop.

Peace,
LA
