I haven't seen it, but I keep hearing from people I trust that the morale is at an all time low. I keep hearing that people are just doing what they have to in order to look like they are doing their jobs but not really going the extra mile. I hear the employee churn is at an all time high.

But, I'm not seeing any of it first hand. Can a few of you jump in with what you are seeing? Are things noticeably worse than 6 months ago?

I recently talked to a former coworker who started at Dell back in 1990.

HE'S ACTIVELY LOOKING TO LEAVE DELL.

This person has traveled the world, singing Dell's praises and supporting their systems on several continents. Today, totally disillusioned with the incompetent management, he has placed his resume out on the major job boards. There are plenty of better companies who would love to have the knowledge and abilities that this person can bring to a new employer, because Dhell certainly doesn't anymore!

In the newspaper, 'throngs' of VP-level people are leaving. They can be assumed to know 'what is', and decided the future lies elsewhere (whilst Dell simply lies).

Pretty unanimously, anyone you can get a candid opinion from will tell you Dell doesn't value any relationship--not employees, not customers, not vendors, not even stockholders. It's the "we're the gorilla in this jungle and if you don't like it there's another one of you right behind you" syndrome.

'Dell 2.0'? Hah Exclamation Rolling Eyes Laughing After a solid 10 years of poisoning every relationship they have, shouldn't Dell be at least on rev 6 by now? Even Microsoft recognized WME for the dog it was.

Well... i don tknow if that's true. I think they value their relationship with their wallets pretty highly.

I guess it's time to sell all of my Dell stock purchased during my years of employment.

Too bad I didn't do it a few years ago, before their value DROPPED some 40%!

Sad

In my group there have been quite a few people leaving, C level engineers with years of experience. It's created a bit of problem due to loss of knowledge within the group. I have a feeling that there were folks who were waiting on the bonus to leave, now they'll leave sooner than later. Anyone sitting on the fence as of last week is gone now.

I work in CC in E-town, and people are dropping like FLIES! Every day I swear I get another "so and so is no longer employed by Dell." message. In fact, I submitted some rather angry feedback to my manager and area manager today, and I think that I'lm going to be next Shocked

They freaked out on me, totally. Fuck, I hate my job.

They're trying to keep a lid on "current events" taking place all over, and trying to do quiet damage control with the amount of attrition they're seeing. This whole mess is gonna get worse long before it gets any better. They always ask that we remain as equals and peers with one another, but watch out if you actively deliver any critical feedback that comes from the heart if you see people dropping off left and right.

Or even out of sheer concern.

They'll have you in a huddle room so quick your eyes will melt.

So you're saying I shouldn't tell my director what I REALLY think when I have my 'Tell Dell' followup 1:1 ?

I'm thinking it might be interesting, what's he going to do? Walk me to the door? I'm no primadonna, but I do know the skillset I have is valuable and not easily replaceable. That and I have nearly a year's living expenses in savings Smile

Skillset or not, Star. If you want to stay employed at Dell, be careful what you say and do (especially these days). People have been walked for less and your Director can always call it insubordination if someone asks why you were let go.

Heh, I've played the corporate game for long enough to know how to tell them the truth without getting in their face with it. At far worse places than Dell BTW. You dont tell an exec 'this is bullshit' , you tell them that you have a suboptimal work environment that is not leveraging your people assets to maximize efficiency. A redirection of effort needs to be made to make the best use of your staff to work on tasks that directly impact schedule and de-emphasise those tasks that do not add value to the product.
Or something to that effect.

If they have a clue, they ask for detail, if not they blow it off.

It's going to be a educational year, the project is already behind schedule and some things have been done to make things worse not better. People are not going to kill themselves with 80hr weeks, the place empties at 5:30.

I don't think it's possible for my morale to drop even lower than it already is. I think there are only 2 people left from my training class (I've been there a year). The team I was put on outside of training have all left (except me).

I agree with several of the postings here... morale is at a ridiculous low. I see it from the VP-level down to the contract workers. Everyone puts on their "game face" because they are living in fear. I know I do! However, in candid moments they will share their disgust and concern about how things are going.

Someone recently mentioned that morale can't be too bad because Tell Dell scores were pretty good. Tell Dell is a JOKE! If several individuals put a low score for a manager then the whole team is pulled into "meetings ad nauseum" to discuss how the low score will destroy the managers career. Therefore, everyone again puts on game face and gives a good score out of fear because they don't want to spend the next quarter in meetings trying to figure out how to improve the scores.

I disagree with the statement that everyone is leaving early and not putting in their extra. There are still a LOT of folks out there that are working double-time to try and make up for the folks that have already left and can't be replaced. Austin is a great city, but not necessarily a great job market. Some of us stay at Dell and "grin and bare it" because we just don't want to leave our homes.

WINNING CULTURE IS A LIE!
