|
|
I have bought several computers from dell. All have been excellent.
I spoke to 3 different people to try to get a system. I finally got someone in Texas who could speak where I could understand them.
I got the system configured. $1028.00 and some change. I still had that not so comfortable feeling in the back of my head.. Even though I've never had trouble with anything purchased from dell in the past I kept thinking. Who would give me the support if I needed it?
I then was transfered to some lady who I could barely understand for the confirmation on the 6mos no interest. She and I went around for about 15 mins. I was looking for a bable fish to translate. I then got that un comfortable feeling in a strong way. I asked her where she was located.. She said Texas... I explained to her that I was having a hard time understanding her. This offended her. At this point I canceled the order.
I did not say this to be offensive. I only mentioned it to see if there was someone who I could communicate more easily with.
What has happened to Dell? It's been 2-3 years since I ordered my last 2 systems. |

If you're still interested, order under a business name. If you dont have a business, make one up. This will more than likely get you to someone in the US, best thing is if you're employeed at a large company, order it under that.

Jeremy's right. (Not that he's ever wrong .)
There's a rumor that more customer service is being repatriated from India. Notice, no layoffs have been announced there. BUT, those are all contractors. Contractors don't issue press releases.
Cross-culture communication is actually fun. You pick up all kinds of entertaining metaphors you might notta thunk of otherwise. But that's in person, where you can readily see whether what you're saying is being understood. On the phone, it's a gnash. Try speaking a slow, exaggerated version of 5th-grade English. The 'average' person raised in an English-speaking country only knows 8th-grade English. Lower your expectations fer Chrissake, this is 2005 You're supposed to KNOW this stuff.
You're a posting member of this site too. You're supposed to know better than to deal with Dell Financial. Put it on your Mastercard. Put quarters in a jar until you have $1028. Unless you REALLY intend to pay it off during the "6 months no interest". And even then, beware the FINE PRINT, which could require paying ~%30 as a penalty for paying it off during the 'no interest' period.
It's not your daddy's Oldsmobile any more. It's "Gotcha" with marketing and fine-print "terms and conditions". _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

O.K., wouldn't it be better if a person could purchase a computer without owning or making up a business? I think that what Jeremy said, when translated to "non Dellish" means: Dell is a shitty company, but the competition is offering cheaper computers anyway. |

If you really want a Dell, then follow delltech_jeremy's advice
Why don't you go to a local PC Store and ask for a custom built one _________________ I see DELL people!!

Ok I've got the cash. Just thought I'd use their money. I've always bought DELL. Never had any major prob. Upgrading some video cards was fun, once.
My wife works for one of the Largest pvt companies in the US and the discounts that we get through her EPP suck. So I just tried for the umpteenth time to buy a new computer from DELL.
Can a local PC maker build me one as Nice/inexpensive as one of these?
Hey I'm all for diversity. But please give me someone who I can at least communicate with.
I'm just shocked that the company I've trusted for many years has gone in this direction. What are they thinking? |

They think with numbers.
Customer Satisfaction was never so low, but they are selling a lot. People want cheap, Dell just satisfy their demand.
You can't build a PC for $299. But a nice custom built PC will be cheaper than a Dell nice PC. Any problem you may have, you'll talk with an American neighbour.
Ask for a budget... _________________ I see DELL people!!

But I bet your american friend who builds the machine will quickly tell you to go and do one, when you are calling them at 3.00am in the morning, just to check if they are there (sorry its a joke)
I work in a call center in the states and everyone in our call center is an American, or has English as a first language.. you might have been unlucky.. but I can give you my extension and I will sell you a nice computer |

If you post all the specs here that were going to be on that computer, one of us could price out all the items that you will need and let you know if it is cheaper. Most likely it will be, but the warranty you will be getting is not the best, but at least you will be dealing with your local tech for assistance, instead of some third world, can hardly understand them tech. Generally, in the long run, it's better to either build your own or go through a local dealer for a custom built machine. _________________ Have you seen my dell laptop?

The thing is though your local dealer, in the states will rob you blind... I needed some new components recently, and was quoted almost double from a local dealer... just went to newegg and bought them myself.
Why dont you just build the machine yourself? Its not that hard.. and im sure any help that you need can be obtained from the nice people on here |
