inspiron 600 hard drive upgrade

I want to replace the 40g drive in my laptop with a 100g from ebay, but it is a bare drive and says the carrier has to be resused. how do i do that? I am already using 20g of mine and it is no longer big enough

Here's a little help to remove the hard drive:

After this, you will have to remove the screws, probably 4 or 6 tiny screws, from the metal part around the hard drive. Also, there will be a black connector covering the pins of the hard drive which will need to be removed and placed on the new hard drive. It should not matter which way the black connector is put on, however, you will want to pay careful attention to which side was up on the old hard drive and put the same side up on the new one. Just screw it back in place and install it. You will need to reinstall the OS with the cds you received from Dell. You can do this by telling a dell tech that you just need to reinstall windows, as most won't if you tell them you upgraded your hard drive, leave that part out. I don't know if you are considered a consumer or business customer, however, they may end up making you pay our helpdesk to reinstall windows. To skip the process, just follow the reinstall guides for windows xp found here:
