If you call MD, it just says "thank you for calling Dell, please hold while we transfer you."

The one address most likely to respond to customer experience issues was not there: dick_hunter(at)dell.com. And I've seen in writing where Dell's email that he actually looks at is michael@dell.com, though once that got around he probably changed it.

Michael had saul@dell.com at one point as well, though that one no longer works. Supposedly according to the Dell Exchange Server michael and michael_dell were the valid ones for Michael when I was still with the company, although I am sure that the e-mail address he uses for business purposes to chat back and forth between his VPs is likely not even a dell.com address since anyone with half a brain can open the global address book and look up e-mail addresses.

I was told once, though I am not sure if it is true or not, that once he receives an e-mail from anyone outside of his "approved" list of people that are suppose to have his e-mail address that the address is changed.

Not once. His secretary ignores 'once', and dozens if not hundreds of others. MD himself doesn't receive email from anyone he doesn't want to. I guaran-damn-tee that.

Besides, if he gave a fark the problem wouldn't have come up in the first place, it would already have been handled by lower-level functionaries.

In the years that I was employed there, I would occassionally pull up the employee email address book to see if I could find Mikey or Rollins - I NEVER found them in the address book with the rest of us "commoners". Whatever addresses they used, they were NOT made available to the rank and file.

yup, it bounced.
alan_g_lafley@dell.com

I fired off a quick email stating how much my Inspiron sucks with Vista installed.

I'll post a response if one is forthcoming.. besides a cease and desist of course since I posted my tirade on my small towns community website.

Realistically though, don't you think if the Board of Directors wanted to know how poorly the company does its job, they already would?

What Dell does to its customers, and what Dell shortchanges in the product, is all deliberate. No, the B of D doesn't issue a memo saying 'make crappy systems' or 'don't answer the phone'. What they do is hire and sustain a hierarchy of toadies (as in any bureaucracy) who will go along exuberantly with whatever they're told, ever how contradictory to the stated mission of the company it may be. Dell refers to this as "dealing with ambiguity" and it is a management mantra. It means "things are what we say they are, and if you think otherwise you're not dealing well with ambiguity".

The toadies go to their respective workgroups and say 'management needs to cut costs so you five people are fired'. The jobs those 5 people were doing were engineering, quality, and service. I was one of them, and I got marched out alongside a dozen others, just from one department. If the jobs are backfilled at all, it's done with other toadies or outsourced to contractors which adds a whole 'nother level of ambiguity between the customer and Dell.

And isn't that ultimately the problem? That the quality of the product is ambiguous, the quality of the support is ambiguous, the goals of the Board are ambiguous with regard to the customer.

And by the way, the Board is treating their ultimate superiors--the stockholders--just as ambigously as they do their customers and employees. My 1998 Dell stock cost $40. In 2002 I sold it for $34. Today it's worth 20% less than that, and that reckons without 9 years of inflation.

If you want ANY action on your emails to Dell, there are some more email addresses you should include in your email to the above 19. In the CC address line list every email address you can find of computer magazine reviewers, financial fund managers, state attorneys general, and an SEC email address. I did this about 18 months ago. I has over 23 email addresses, not to include Mike's and Kevin's emails. In less than a week I had a email from Dell upper management concerning my email. Unfortunately, he was more concerned with the fact I sent the email to all the others than he was with the fraud I brought to their attention. Was I ever surprised at that!!! (Sarcasm)
I dont know if my email was the straw that broke the camels back or what, but 6 months later, the SEC started to look at Dell and so did New York.
You can be sure that with all those email addresses, someone at Dell will reply to you. Just dont expect any help or any real concern from this company.

This is the truest thing in practical purpose, as I've not only used it myself, I've seen it used with great success.

Not to Dell though, I own no Dell merchandise.

No, I blasted a strip off someone years ago via email (so that I had a paper trail) and CC'd several other influential and antogonistic parties on the email. This was after nearly 2 years of dead ends dealing with them directly.

After the email was sent with all the CC's, wouldn't you know it - I got a direct reply within 48 hours.

Just remember that when you want results, cause a scene. The only way to cause a scene with email is to include as many recipients (witnesses) as you know. It's harder to ignore a mass of people, whereas you as an individual can be disregarded immediately.

If you ever CC media or governmental types, expect a response so fast your mouse will explode.

Back in the old days, if you did something good, Michael Dell would send you an email with a "smiley face" attached to the end of it. I wish I could find one to tell Mikey to KMA.

is the sense that nothing can repair my Dell PC. I don't mind paying to repair it. The problem is that no one seems to have any idea why it failed. And the information from Dell is just BS.
