I'm trying to take the hdd out of my old inspiron 6000 so I can put it into an external house to transfer data. I'm having problems removing the screws. I thought you just had to take the "lock" screw out and then the other screws would be removable, however the screws for the hdd are not coming out. I remember having this problem before, but I don't remember how I got the screws out. Anyone know the magic trick to get the screws out?

Actually, does anyone know how to get the hdd out in general?

sob. Wouldn't you know it, the hdd of the new 6000 comes out easily, but the one on the old 6000, the one that I *need* doesn't want to come out. F---ING DELL. Do they buy their screws at some second hand screw store where they only sell irregular screws that don't work? WTF!@

Follow escaped's link. Power screwdrivers (as used in assembly) can overtorque screws, making them difficult or impossible (self-tapping into plastic) to remove.

Yeah, the damn thing wouldn't come out. I ended up taking the drive out of the new one, putting that in the external house, and just dragging my files onto the new drive. It was kind of confusing, but whatever. Now I just have to go back and delete all my files on the old drive and send it back to dell.

It's in the 'terms and conditions' isn't it? Look under "we've got your money, YOU make it work".
