This is my original Inspirion 518, bought as $920 in Costco

Windows Vista Home Premium x64 OS
Intel GMA 3100
300W PSU
Foxconn .61 CFM (literally) .5 V 92 mm fan
LGA 775 casefan (provided by Intel I believe)
Intel Core 2 Duo TM E7300
4 GB DDR2 DIMM 240 pin RAM

For all the Windows 7 geeks:

Hardware Virtualization: NO

To sum up....Windows Experience Rating: 3.5

Case Temperature: 86 C
GPU: 50-52 C
Core 1: 52 C
Core 2: 52 C

Fan 1: 1650 RPM
Fan 2: 980 RPM

------------------------------
This is what I revised:

(Same OS)
XFX GeForce 9500, 9600 (I have the 9500 right now)
Rosewill Performance Series RP500-2 PSU 500W
Antec Cooling 92 mm case fan (better voltage and CFM obviously)
A rare 120 mm that fits on the side of the case because DELL made me bought the wrong fan and works. (1500 RPM)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66 Ghz
Rosewill RCX Z775-LX 92 mm CPU heatsink
PCI cooler
(Same RAM)
----------------------------

Original Price: $920

If I were to buy what I included and built a PC myself (back then I didn't know anything about computers), I would say I could had bought......$980

The better buy was obviously making my own computer. This is actually true in about 75% of cases. But if anyone wants to know, that entire modding job I did cost me around $300 because a friend of mine bought me that PSU.

What I found worse was this....

Revision of DELL Inspirion 518 (with all the parts I included)

Windows Experience Rating: 6.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And take a look at my current temperature. According to Speedfan:

Case temperature: 40 C
GPU: 40 C
Core 1: 45 C
Core 2: 46 C
Core 3: 45 C
Core 4: 40 C

Fan 1: 1,500 RPM (wtf? I replaced the case fan from DELL and this thing gives lower RPM and yet does a good job?)

Fan 2: 2,077 RPM

Fan 3: 1,500 RPM (this is the mistake fan still in the tower)

Hardware Virtualization: YES

----------------

In my opinion, my DELL wasn't going to last in the first place. They called Inspirion 518 a "family-friendly" computer. More like a family computer going to go in trouble in the worst of situations. Because its summer, we all know that computers going even on 86 C in the fall is bad. That same 86 C happened to me in the winter wtf....

Basically, I'm just disappointed I had to mod most of my essential DELL parts just to make a computer reliable. I handled the severe heat problem, I avoided DELL's PSU which I heard rumors it'll break down fast, and I gave it a new video card and cooling systems. It was well worth the shot.

Btw, for those who wanna know a bit further bout modding, you cannot overclock on your CPU. The motherboards and their BIOS deny you this right. Unless you know your PLL number, some programs may help you. Dhell did this to prevent the huge numbers of customer service calls that would had come because if you do the overclocking wrong, you're going to get the freeeze..

Most companies have the same policy. Although I shouldn't blame DELL for its heatsink. Intel gives out sucky heatsinks when you buy their processors.
