sorry to bother you.
i have a very simple question and you seem to know what you're talking about.
dell dimension 4700. do you know what optiplex, precision (or so) heatsink with the 4 or 6 heatpipes running through it will fit the retainer clip for the 4700.
i built this machine from spare parts for my cousin from dell parts that are WAY hot. and i'd like to get a better heatsink with the matching fan shroud. |
I got this PM last friday. Does anybody know if you can use the optiplex or the precision heatsink in the 4700?
Looking at the bolt pattern, I'mn going to assume that the 4700 mounting is a standard Skt 478 mounting. I might be wrong on this, but that's what it looks like. You can easily find such a heatsink on www.newegg.com or some other website.
Personally, I use a Thermaltake Silent 775 cooler. It's a good heatsink, with heatpipes and the such. However, the mounting pattern is not the same as a standard skt 775 mounting pattern on the dell motherboard. However, one of the cool things about skt 775 is that the heatsink does not play any role in keeping the processor in the socket. Thus, you can zip-tie the heatsink on, with only enough pressure to keep it in place.
Anyway, Good Luck in building your machine _________________ "The art of Engineering is knowing what you can safely ignore." -Dr. H. Hess
