| Ok boys and girls I have a serious question. I am a DSP and I need to buy a new laptop. I have a few in mind. Warranty used to be a no brainer...want the best buy gold! Yeah yeah...I know the hecklers are saying "why the hell would you buy a Dell??" Cause I can work on the damn thing...OK!! First requirement is that I do NOT want to be sent offshore when I call for support like 75% of your customers bitch about! Second requirement is warranty length. Is 3 yrs the most one can buy up front now? What is Dell Care Plus?? Is that the new GTS?? Do I get someone who parks their car in the US when I call? Ya know...if I buy a Dell it might just extend your job for a couple more days. |

I think gold/GTS is no longer offered anyways. It's all tiered support now. You'll have to choose your warranty and build it. ProSupport is what they call it now, and it comes in many varieties. This was launched in conjunction with the Vostro lines.
4 years is the max term for a warranty life last I checked. |

Depends where you are in the world.
In the UK the support for Inspiron & XPS goes to Bangalore unless you're a Relationship customer.
Latitude, Precision & optiplex get you directed to Glasgow.
Standrad warranty is 3 years and you can buy a 2 year extension on it bringing it to 5 years. |

| We are doing a feasability study to determine the effectiveness of a 8 year warranty. yes, that is DOUBLE the maximum 4 year warranty currently available in the US. Such a value- we are proposing to Marketing to have a 8 year warranty for about $125 a year. Imagine the piece of mind knowing that for about 40 cents a day (less than the cost of 2 cigarettes) your new laptop is covered for ANY hardware defects arising out of manufacturing. I think it is WIN WIN. |

7 x $125 (first year included in purchase) = $875, the price of a modest laughtop. Doesn't sound real feasible to me. Specially cornsidering most Dells don't last 2 years without breaking, whereas they used to last 8, so it would take FOUR systems to equal the reliability of ONE good one. Lose-lose. _________________ Rocke T Sinetist

Where your call is routed to is more about your system and less about the warranty. Commercial Business (Optiplex's and Latitudes) are handled in The States mostly and Small Business aswell. Dell is also starting PT5 which is the Premier Tech Support or GTS Pro Equivalent for consumers soon in the states. _________________ It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about the problem.

Wait a month and get a refurb Latitude D-series from the outlet.
Add 3 years of Complete Care.
They'll be selling for cheap once the new E-series starts to ship.
Batteries and dock, get that on ebay, also get any CD / DVD burner upgrades there. Dell uses a standard form factor for their optical drives. |
