I got a dell lab top, brand new......and it sucks. It came to me without the driver installed, so I had to call the teck support. What a FREAKIN JOKE! I'm all about diversity, but these Pakistani couldn't even speak english. Of course they are so afraid of losing their jobs, they wouldn't let me speak to their supervisor. So after 7 calls to Pakistan aka "coustomer support" I emailed Michael Dell himself. (michael.dell@dell.com) Of couse someone who spoke english called me the next day, kissing my arse. But she said she would have some American Tech call, he did 3 days later, after about an hour of working over the phone, he said he'd call me back the next day, because his shift was over, but never did. By this time my PC was 6 months old. I went to Best Buy and had the"GeeKs" reload my drivers.

So everyone with a problem with Dell, blow Michael Dell's email up, maybe he will get the point

If you have Windows XP and you couldn't install a driver you are the dumbest person ever...

Even worse if you called Tech Support Wink

Actually it really depends on which system, which driver and if he even had the driver CD. We have new and EXTREMELY FREAKIN' STUPID idea called the "Media Reduction Initiative" (as in whoever thought of it needs an MRI to find their freakin' brain !). The MRI means they won;t be getting ANY CD's other than those supplied by the hardware/software manufacturers. It's been stupid and now it's just getting worse and worse.

Hey Dell ! Have any idea yet why your attrition rate is so bad in India ? Why 25% of your American employees are on prescrip drugs or alcohol ?

Hey America ! What levels we have sunk to when Dell is Fortune Magazines #1 Most Admired Company.

I don't think I'm going to trust MS to find the right drivers for my hardware just yet. They've come a long way but not that far. They should have bought driverguides.

Of course the files aren't on the hard drive. That would be too easy !

I'm not a technician...

I know WIN XP auto detects and auto installs new hardware found.

Almost all drivers comes with the OS.

What I really meant is: drivers are not big deal.

If you don't have the CD you can download it anywhere.

Sure but it's like the XPS-I I had the other day. Damn modem drivers simply wouldn't install by themselve. Had the customer boot to Safe Mode and removed the bangs in Device Manager. Rebooted and since we had tried nearly every driver for every Inspiron modem, Winderz installed the driver automagically.

Well, that only happens when he/she downloaded some crap and modified a couple of files and folders.

Theoretically it should do it alone...

I know MS is unreliable and unstable.

I guess I should have clarified. This was a XPS-I that I was asked to pickup. The customer had received the wrong OS. Wanted XPP and had XPH. CC accomodated the gent so I thought nothing of it. What a mistake ! It turned out the fella had a refurb. The Resource Disk didn't have the video drivers for the ATI9800 and the modem drivers wouldn't install. Now this is from a fresh reinstall of XPSP2 mind you. In the end he's happy and I learned a lot about the XPS-I but of course I screwed my stats by taking care of the customer.

That said even SP2 doesn't have the chipset, video, modem, NIC drivers in it. I'm not too surprised. I just read where we're now using non-standard PCIe slots as well.

I see.

Congratulations you could solve the customer's driver problem.

You could have screwed your stats but you made a customer happy and satisfied.

That's the important thing Cool

For Paul,
I must be the dumbest person in the world. I didn't graduate from computer geeks school, where I date all kinds of celebrities....in the pixel format. It must be so tough to be such a stud that my finger tips are 3inches thick with calises, because you can type 900 words a minute. Alson knowing that you can grow as much hair on your face as you can your hands is pretty impressive. I'll keep your thoughts in mind the next time I post on a nerdy website.

Sincerely,

Paul go get F$#Ked!

You have got to be kiddin' !! Do you really think that Michael Dell actually gets you email ?

ROTFLMAO !!!!!!

You've got a better chance with a prayer to God !

He's got this little thing called an admin that separates the wheat from the chaff. I've been at Dell quite a while and I've never talked to him.
