I was in Dell Hell for six months so I agree they can be horrible. But you can't tell from that notice about an expiring warranty whether or not she actually paid, after she got the notice, to extend that warranty. She says she attached the INVOICE when she wrote Consumerist. But she did NOT attach the INVOICE.
I got a bunch of those letters and they are just reminders. I also have the email proforma invoice from DellServiceSales.com and the actual final invoice showing "paid" for two more years extended warranty that was mailed to me. It is the FINAL invoice with "Paid Receipt Only" stamped twice in big red letters that is proof she paid for the extension.
Dell sends those REMINDERS WAY in advance of the expiration date. I got a notice TEN MONTHS before the expiration date. So, she may be confused as to what she bought because the notice comes way too early and there are a series of them...Dell bombards you with those notices. She probably did get screwed but you cannot tell from that notice that was posted. The FINAL invoice would be mailed AFTER she sent in her payment or called 866-739-3355 (as I did) and bought over the phone. If she has the actual Final Invoice showing PAID with a 2008 expiration date then she will win in small claims court but if all she has is a reminder about an expiring warranty and credit card statement showing she paid Dell $229 on a certain date....well....Besides, she doesn't seem to even know what amount she paid them...She first says $248 and later in another reply to Consumerist she says $229. |

Hi Mele20
Here is something you may not know but the State of NY has a large number of people who have all of this documented and it is part of their class action. Your observations are correct but I am afraid this is something epidemic with Dell.
It seems so outlandish one would look for other explanations and even the possibilty that the customer has misunderstood something.
But.. just not the case!
There is a very large number of people who have paid and have the verification of payment that have been denied service.
Dell counts on people not contestng.
They have not been counting on class action suits!
You are unlike so many people in that you pay attention to detail.
Dell is counting on the poor souls who are disorganized and are oblivious to detail! _________________ The E in Dell and the E in Enron point the same way!
