Welcome to Dell Hell...
We purchased a Dell 1545 laptop last week from Best Buy and got burned on Dell installed software.
Best Buy advertised the 1545 as coming with "Windows Vista" but the ad made no mention of 64bit version only.
The key problem is that Windows Vista 64bit IS NOT COMPATIBLE with most WinXP software currently installed on most PCs.
Dell will not allow a free Microsoft software downgrade from Vista 64 bit to Vista 32 bit that is more compatible with WinXP software applications.
When Dell sold laptops 5 years ago, users were given the initial install choice of either Windows 2000 or WinXP for the operating system. Why does Dell not allow users this same freedom choice for Vista or WinXP?
Requiring Windows Vista only on Dell 1545 laptops causes uneeded, hidden, and undisclosed costs required for manditory software upgrades that Dell does not openly disclose to buyers.
Microsoft for the past 6 months allows business users and retail purchasers to downgrade from Windows Vista to WinXP at no charge.
Why is Dell shafting purchasers by locking them into manditory Vista 64 bit setups with required and expensive software upgrades? _________________ Welcome to Dell Hell - outsourcing tech support does not work! |

| So, NOWHERE on the box was a sticker saying what version(32 or 64 bit OS) was installed? Did you ask the person that sold you the Laptop what version(32 or 64 bit) was installed? Did you power up the Laptop, to make sure it wasn't DOA, before you left the store to check what version was installed? Doesn't Best Buy offer a "no questions asked" return policy? |

<< So, NOWHERE on the box was a sticker saying what version(32 or 64 bit OS) was installed? >> The original ad said only "Windows Vista" was included. I called Best Buy Tech Support in advance of purchase and they said the laptop came with a choice of Vista 64 bit or 32 bit and they thought WinXP was also a install choice on initial setup.
<<Did you ask the person that sold you the Laptop what version(32 or 64 bit) was installed?>> The Best Buy store salesman thought the laptop came with a choice of Vista 64bit or 32bit. I did not get the laptop or see the box until I had already paid for it.
<<Did you power up the Laptop, to make sure it wasn't DOA, before you left the store to check what version was installed?>> No I did not because I relied on what was said by Best Buy telephone support and the store salesman. When I got home and turned on the laptop, it started the autoinstall of Vista 64bit without prompting or warning us.
<< Doesn't Best Buy offer a "no questions asked" return policy?>> Yes, for a maximum 2 week period. However, I paid an extra $300 for an added 3 year warranty for service and support. When I talked to Dell Tech Support, one of their techs criticized my laptop choice claiming that my 4GB memory, 360Gb hard drive, and Intel T6400 dual processor laptop was considered "low-end" and that I should consider buying a more expensive Dell model, a business model, or purchase a more expensive support package.
This is why Dell and Best Buy laptop tech support sucks! _________________ Welcome to Dell Hell - outsourcing tech support does not work! |

Buying a Dell from Dell or Best Lie Is a bad mistake either way.( Buying anything from Best Buy Is also a bad mistake) Yes Best Lie sure does have a "No Questions Asked" return policy. You can ask them for a full refund and you won't get It. The $300 Geek Squad 3 year warranty Is a big ripoff. Just search through Google and you'll find numerous complaints about how Best Buy extended warranties are useless and fraudulent.
Dhell & Best Buy.....Partners In Deception _________________ Dell Is for those who don't know what A real computer Is. Dell, A real sham of a company. As crooked, evil and shoddy a corporation can be, Dell exceeds those negative qualities. |

So you're blaming dell because Bestbuys salespeople are not informed?
How is this dell's fault?
I be interested to know what programs you're having issues with.
Have you tried right clicking the app, select properties, then compatability, set it to XP SP2 |
