This is by far the least used section. I am contemplating closing this area.
If your in sales, you better speak up now!

We may need a moderator for this section.

I think this area can be useful but I'm not sure how much traffic Sales will generate.

i used to work in DHS but have quit for about 2 weeks now. I feel GREAT. Lemme tell you a bit about what goes on there:
I was hired on as a Dell badge. oh gee big whoop with barely nothing in salary. First month working there i worked 11 hour shifts. EVERYDAY. there is no OT pay in this because you are.. thats right, salaried. I worked there 8 months, busted my ass, and only hit quota 3 months out of that. Not because im not a good salesperson, but either because quota was unnatainable, or i was missing 1 out of the million metrics you have to hit there. (TRU, ACD's, Margin, DPA, Close rate.. and many more.. they will come up with any metric so you wont hit and they wont have to pay you trust me)
I recieved NO promotions during the time i was there because i would hit 2 metrics to get a promotion but miss my quality score by 1 or 2%. I think out of the many superqueue reps there, about 3 got promotions. U have to bust your butt, i mean work ATLEAST 60 hrs per week to actually hit quota, and when you do, you paycheck isn't even that great! most reps work their ass off with no life to make 24k per year in DHS.
After some time, OT seemed to become more prevalent, i may have had one month of normal time there. We were working 50 hour weeks, for who? not ourselves because quota is baked into OT! i dont care what managers tell you, QUOTA IS BAKED INTO OT. you would think working 50 hour weeks that everyone should hit right? becuase you're working more and selling more. NO. out of a 20 person team, 2 on my team were hitting during OT. were we pissed? oh yea, are they gonna do something about it? hell no! what do they do? heres what they did:
in the last weeks of july 05, they announced that because of "back to school" we would all have to work "mandatory OT" 12 hour days ALL MONTH. we were already drained from the 10 hour shifts and already complained to the ASM's and tell dell. and what do they do? add an extra 2 hours of OT!! thats when i had it and quit.
in DHS, you get in trouble for going to the bathroom too many times, if you're late you get attendance points... attendance points??? i haven't gotten an attendance point since the 4th grade. During OT they would come around with candy and cookies, like that would make us happy. maybe they should pay us more or treat us like adults instead of stuffing candy down our throats thinking that would make us happy there.
for all of you who think you cannot find better jobs, you are WRONG. there are many other jobs out there better then DHS. Dont be suckered into what managers tell you. Transfering to business is not better, its the same metrics and same stress. i found a much better job now working at a lawfirm at craigslist.org im treated like an adult here and work normal work hours with weekends off. i am a much happier person and as my best friend said "you get your glow back after leaving DHS"... and she was right.

Ok I guess I can say I miss it, I miss working for Spherion. I have only once before ever made 10k in 3 months. And of course I was lured over to work on the Dell side. Talk about a friggin pay cut. Why would anyone want to work for Dell? On my last day I relised I had to quit care I actually said to the customer, "Go call Gateway you dumba** B****" then I panicked and wondered if had been recorded, logged out of my phone, stood up walked to my TL and said bye.

Now my bills have piled up and my kidz are mad cause I can't buy them everything they see on TV, but I don't beat up my wife while I sleep anymore and my shoulders are no longer connected to my earlobes.

Between the impossible metrics and the impossible customers, how is one supposed to make a "happy" living in DHS?

Oh and get this. I left onthe last day of the "Dell" month. According to my TL I nailed attainment and then some. My final comission check, $102.45.
Something wrong with that picture?

I worked for Spherion the minimum 3 months before getting direct Dell hired. It took a while for the pay to kick in and the Salary is pretty low unless you do well, but I was hired into the PQ (Premium Queue/high value) after only one month. One month later, I was XPS. I make over 50k a year now, and I owe it to 5 months at Dell, working my way from the ground up.

So post here with all of your bitching. It sounds like you were a really crappy rep. The reason you didnt get your promotion is not really that you missed those quality percentage points. If you're any good at all, you get promoted to a different queue. Quality points is just a way to get a TINY bit more money doing the same job. Any sales rep worth a crap gets promoted regardless of quality points. I have no idea how my quality rating is, but every month I was drafted by a new manager and given more money.

Maybe if you focused on your key upsells and positioned 4yr premiums on DPA you'd have my job Wink

He's acting like its not possible to make money there.

Im making more than I ever thought I could at this point in my life.

And my soul is in tact. I just sell high margin stuff. I'm not sure what's so bad about my job. Maybe you've got some jealousy issues or like, Dell laid your papa off when you were just a little one. Who knows/whocares.

The job rocks and the company rocks. They have some very shady business practices and they try to mislead customers.

Just like most every other company around.

Dell just happens to be better at it. In the end, I give someone a price and they say yes or no. End of story : ) Besides, I have a couple of raving fan plaques, which are indications of how happy my customers were with their purchases.

What was that thing about selling my soul again? Ouch.
