The BIOS version in my Dell Dimension V350 is A07. Is there a later version? I am haveing trouble finding drivers for this system. I know its quite old but it still works. Here is the service tag and express code.

Please help me find the right page for drivers Win 98SE and Win 2000Pro drivers.

Thanks

Drivers for what?

Personally, I think that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That usually causes more problems than it solves

I need a BIOS update. Also i need a better video update. I loaded 98 SE and it detected the driver but its haveing video problems in some games. The reason i need a BIOS update is because i want to put in a PIII 500 Mhz processor i got just lying around. I put it in and got a message i needed a PII processor or PIII motherboard. A BIOS update should work because i tried the processor in a old compaq PII 300 and it worked no errors.

You may want to edit out your service tag and express service code as one of the moderators will when they see it. It's not a good idea to give out personally identifiable information. Fallen angel did give you some good links though.

It's been edited and it was for your own safety, not ours. So go ahead and show us how stupid you are and put it back Wink

Proxies aside,

You stand to gain virtually NOTHING putting a P3 in a P2 socket. And just because Compaq's MB let you do it doesn't mean Dell's will.

Gaming? On a bastardized P2/W98? You MAJOR gotta be kidding!

If your P2 Dell portable still works, use it until it doesn't then toss it. If you don't need to use it and just want to experiment, go ahead. BIOS up-versions typically accomodate things like optical drives that weren't yet shipping when the previous BIOS shipped. A08 will NOT make the difference between supporting P3 and not supporting it.

If you're resourceful enough to undertake successfully a project of this scope, great. Enjoy your 3% performance increase on a 7-year-old system. I would too, but only if if didn't cost anything or consume any time or bandwidth.

As for the old P2 playing games. I got old games that WILL NOT play on Xp no matter how the compatability is set. And i do think updateing the BIOS will fix the problem. Thats just me thinking it will. Maybe it will or maybe it want. Im still not sure if i want to take the risk of flashing the BIOS. I have done it on several computers its never failed before. I just always not sure about it. One reason im keeping this system is i built a time machine. Im going back in time 7 years Wink Im sorry i got little smart mouth about the post. I really meant to edit it. Ive been under alot of stress. When i got home from work today i read the post. Meant to edit it went to do something else and forgot to come back and edit it. I layed down and was knocked out for about 4 hours.

Not a problem mate. I understand about 7-year-old machines, I use a P2/W98 myself. And compatibility. And stress--my plumbing backed up and destroyed the front bathroom last week.

Dell P2s compatible with P3? Not that I know of, but I can't say it's impossible either. Good luck, keep us posted.

Ok the BIOS flash is suscessful. Is A08 the latest? I thought there was a A09. Oh well. Wish it would have did the newer splash screen. I read in the readme file one of the older flashes changed the splash dell logo screen. Also read where one of the old flashes made the motherboard compatable with 450 Mhz processors. And thats PIII. Not sure if im going to try that PIII 500 Mhz or not.

Nope. For your dimension Vxxx, the BIOS version A08 is as good as it gets.

i would in all honesty suggest ripping the guts of the original out. and replacing the mobo with an amd bundle. cheap and trusty. the power unit would need to support the mobo and amd. but 350 watts should be enough. as for the ram cheap nowdaysl for ddr. if it supports sdram i'm sure you have some lying around spare
