Found out something very interesting today. Computers that are financed through Dell are not yours until they are paid in full! checked my contracts and all of them are worded the same way. You, the customer, are the "lessee" until the final payment is made! If you move you have to advise Dell Financial that the computer is changing it's domicile. My opinion of Dell just went south!

I called them and basically you have to keep the computer even if it fries regardless of it being out of warranty. You have to keep a dead computer for the remainder of your contract or else you are liable. Nice One! Is that even legal?

DELL, DELL, DELL...

Nothing they do is really all that legal.

The have lawyers in case they're sued... which is actually often, and a fat checkbook to make problems go away.
They rely on people not fighting back, as any large corporation does. The moment you hit them hard and fast and from every legal angle, they give up.

Their contracts won't hold up in most states. They know that but rely on ignorance to protect them.

The word has been out for years about DELL and their business practices, apparently. Yet, not everyone has heard.
Forums like this help spread that word.

DELL sucks.

No less than 1/3 of what Dell does is illegal. They know it, and their dodge is that the product costs less than the cost of a lawsuit, so nobody's going to sue them. Oh, except the NY attorney general, the Oregon state employment commission, and a couple others that haven't come to trial yet.

Yes, payments definitely outlast product when you're talking about Dell. You have no recourse with Dell Financial whatsoever, even when the mistake is theirs. Never get involved with Dell Financial.

Better late then never I have learned, and NEVER again!!!

I'm going to go the build as you go route from now on as I used to do! At least If I have a problem it's my own damn fault lol. Sadly my Inspiron is dying and it too is still not paid. I suppose the Dimension 3100 will follow next!

Too bad because they were good at one time. Oh well, long live capitalism.

Unfortunately, a contract is a contract. HOWEVER, go to the website of the office of the attorney general where you live and check on your rights, believe it or not you do have a few. The site may be www.ago.??.gov The ?? would be the 2 letter abreviation code for your state!
Try that, you may have a fighting chance! As a matter of fact I will post this for all to see! I hope this helps you! Confused

I hate to tell you this, but you are totally hosed. They did this same scam to me. I thought I was signing up for 90 days no interest financing and they claim that I agreed to a lease. What you described is a lease which means you don't own it at all and are simply renting it for a period, and are probably required to return it to them in working condition at the end of the lease. I bought a 30" LCD from them for $1500... agreed to take the 90 day promotion, and then sent them a check for payment in full after about 70 days. I kept getting these bizarre statements and eventually called and was told I had a lease. They claim I verbally agreed to it... I can't believe this is legal. After talking to about a dozen of their reps and managers I've convinced that they are just liars and cheats. I caught them in outright lies repeatedly. Even the legal document they sent back via the NY attorney general to me has a totally different story then what they claimed on the phone. I had to pay them an additional $700 to get out of this.
