Yup, and for the same prize you can get a USB memory key with 60 times as much capacity and speed.

I'm still waiting for a USB memory key that I can boot my PC from; till then, having a floppy drive is still handy.

USB flash drives have been bootable for over a year, given that your system BIOS supports booting from one. With the price of flash drives going down, you can get a 1GB flash drive for ~$100. You could even run a trim OS off of a flash drive. Slow, but it would work.

For those of you talking about BIOS flash, system that did not include a floppy drive by default, have had BIOS releases that could be run from within the OS, without a floppy.

I still use my floppy drive. Yesterday I had to pull a resume off my old laptop, and the only way I could do it was via the floppy. When doing installs, I still boot with a Win98 startup floppy. Yes I have a thumbdrive, and it works wonders. But sometimes it's just nice to know that old standby is there willing to do its thing.

Am I wrong Question

I know that manufacturers are omitting floppy drives from their installs, but since when has a floppy drive cost 40 bucks? The other day I had to buy a new floppy drive for a client of mine (I build a lot of systems and sell them in my area),and the whole thing came to 8 dollars.Took 5 minutes to install.

I know for a fact Dell employees arent paid very well, but $40 for a floppy drive is insane. You can buy multi format DVD writers for about that amount of money!! Come on Dell-you already rip us off on our systems, why rip us off for a measly floppy drive?!!

Dude. You're the one who has no idea what he's talking about. IBM/Lenovo have the number rated laptop in most all of the categories. That's because they make their own and don't buy from Compal, Wistron, Foxconn, Qualcomm and the other Chinese companies that makes Dell's crap. IBM/Lenovo is #2 in laptop share behind Dell only because people have yet to learn how bad Dell notebooks are. To the other guy's comment, buy a usb floppy from comp usa if u really need it. IBM/Lenovo only include floppy w/ the G series which uses desktop processors (you're an idiot to use any laptop w/ desktop processor). Last before that was A31 to have floppy. Floppies are obsolete. Get a memory key and move on. Secure Digital is good way to go.

Sorry, I love the capablity to use serial ports, parallel ports, and IR port
There are MANY people who don't use USB ports, or even FIREWIRE.

Perhaps, but their number is dwindling by the day. It's rare to get a computer that does come with a USB keyboard or mouse. And no new printers come with parallel interfaces anymore.

Spank me if I'm wrong, but isn't Lenovo a Chinese company? Does that mean they make crap?

For being an all about Dell site, you should know better. Dell makes NOTHING!!! Read up on the subject. Dell does final assembly on what other people make. Compal, Wistron, FoxCONN, etc are called ODM's. Original Design Manufacturer. Dell buys design and core components from ODM's, has them shipped to its regional assembly plants, then Dell does things like put in the hard drive, add memory, and add processor and calls it DELL. Thing is, Dell drives the ODMs so hard to make cheap that what you get is cheap. Lenovo products are at least made by Lenovo. Difference being they control quality. As they market their products higher end and qualtiy, what should you expect?

Think about it...
