Shaft has two suggestions for you:

1) find a XP OEM copy. It is just the OS without all of the Dell crap. You can still use your number from your COA. Do you have computer geek friends or know anyone that works IT? Trust me, after a clean install with it, the system will seem a lot faster. Hell, Dell and computer companies in general blog the system down right out of the box.

-- if you don't know any computer techs, just go to a store and ask for a nuke and pave OR system reload. Don't be afraid to get a professional to reinstall the system.

2) You can get rid of the computer. One word: Ebay! Chances are you can sell it for maybe less then 2 to 5% then what you paid for it. You get your refund and you can get a new system

Dell is like my only choice...

my question is WHY? First off, laptops suck for gaming. You could have spent third of what you did for that laptop on a great desktop. PLUS You can upgrade the video card down the road. With laptops you are stuck. And the chances of it failing are greater.

But if you need a gaming laptop, HP or ALienware are good OTHER choices.

Anything that loads in the system tray at startup that I am not actively using is rubbish, consuming resources and performing zero function. A number of Windows 'services' can be turned off, freeing more resources, boots and shuts down faster. My W98 shuts down in 3 seconds, even WITH an active internet filter and firewall running. And my CPU clock is the same speed as your BUS clock, 400MHz!

I thought gamers knew all this stuff. I read it off a gamer website fer gawdsake, and I'm not a gamer.

Big Andy is a moron.

"I bought a fancy new gaming computer and then decided to mess it all up even though it was the "pinnacle of perfection" and now that I messed it up i want Dell to fix it!"

You sound stupid because you probably ARE stupid. I for one stand up and applaud Dell for basically saying to shove that gaming computer up your ass. You, sir, are proof that money is not directly related to brains.

Are you kidding me?

I'm in college and I have no job and I am going to go BROKE buying a new computer because Dell has no morals...

When I'm on the streets I'll send a complaint letter.

If you don't have a job and you don't want to go broke then why spend the 3 grand on the laptop? I hope your not majoring in Finance!!! You could of purchased a desktop for a cheaper price and had more gaming power! Then when you go to class take notes with a pen and paper, believe it or not that still works. I guess you should of thought your situation through first. You really do need to realize how much that crap that Dell puts on your computer is only for their benefit not yours. Everyone I know blows away that image they put on and they ALL know that it will work better after that. I know it sounds like some of us are attacking you, but we just need you to realize that we are trying to show you what is better. Its not a matter of opinion, but fact.

How is it to Dell's benefit? They don't charge for it at all...

And I need to spend 3 grand on a laptop so I can have the stuff Dell puts on it...THATS WHY!!!

And I do use a pen and paper in class but when I go home for breaks its so much easier to get just grab laptop instead of tower, moniter, keyobard, mouse, etc...

So is there anything I can do except for buy a new dell? Give them 3 grand more or what

How is it Dell's benefit????

Lets see.....

AOL pays Dell big $$$ to put their little free 6 month free trial scam on their computer. they dont charge you for it but they still get paid. All of that crap that comes with your computer when you turn it on SLOWS YOUR COMPUTER BIG TIME.

Best bet? dont go and buy a new computer. Just go to Best buy and buy a full version of XP Pro and load it. Your pc will run fast and you can start from scratch. And dont go and try to "fix" anything this time.

IDEA...

plus, aol only makes money if ppl actually use it

And I'm not gonna pay 200 bucks to get this computer to work
ILl just get a new computer...cheaper

Fellow 'haters', what do you suppose is the status of System Restore on this system? I don't know for a fact it was ever on portables, and I forgot how to invoke it--F-something. But if all Andy wants is his original image back, that's a zero-cost way to accomplish that. IF it's there, IF it works...

Andy, as we've tried to get across, losing Dell's image is more of a gain than a loss, from a technical, functional, practical perspective. Us computer types also think in terms of everyone under 25 having grown up with computers and able to make them do anything, and you should be able to reconstruct your image with one hand tied behind your back. That's an assumption based on a stereotype though. Sorry if it's inaccurate.

But fer gawdsake, do NOT buy a new computer just to get Dell's image! What a colossal waste of money! Think of the starving children in Norwegia!

Alright this thread ends now. This is the last post. I have come to realize two things:

a.) Andy is a moron who has a 3000 dollar computer (I am doubting that now) and would rather buy a cheap POS computer than buying a new OS that would maximize his gaming notebook.

b.) Andy is just sitting on his parents computer and trying to fill his sunday with pointless internet dribble and trying to get us frusterated. Go into a gutter and die.

This thread is dead.

a.) I do in fact have a 3000 dollar laptop rigtht now. How is buying an MX170 that is better then this one a "cheap POS"?

b.) I am not on my parents computer because I am at college. I am not trying to get you frustrated, I just dont like this computer I am on. Dell does things for a reason, to better the consumer.

Ok Andy, stop wasting our time on here and call Dell and bitch and try to get a drive sent to you with the image already on it. Then all you have to do is switch the hard drives. Then after Dell pisses you off and runs you around...then come back to us and we'll help you out.
